Target

  • Function

Serum albumin, the main protein of plasma, has a good binding capacity for water, Ca(2+), Na(+), K(+), fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. Its main function is the regulation of the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Major zinc transporter in plasma, typically binds about 80% of all plasma zinc.
  • Tissue specificity

    Plasma.
  • Involvement in disease

Defects in ALB are a cause of familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia (FDH) [MIM:103600]. FDH is a form of euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia that is due to increased affinity of ALB for T(4). It is the most common cause of inherited euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia in Caucasian population.
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the ALB/AFP/VDB family.
    Contains 3 albumin domains.
  • Post-translational
    modifications

Kenitra variant is partially O-glycosylated at Thr-620. It has two new disulfide bonds Cys-600 to Cys-602 and Cys-601 to Cys-606.
    Glycated in diabetic patients.
Phosphorylation sites are present in the extracelllular medium.
Acetylated on Lys-223 by acetylsalicylic acid.
  • Cellular localization

    Secreted.

    Question

    Hallo,

I´ve just three questions about this product:

Do you know the antigen that was used for immunization of the rabbit (full length HSA or just a part of the protein??)

Do you know if there is a cross reactivity with calf serumalbumin??

What is the concentration of this product??

    Thank

    All the best

    Answer

Thank you for your enquiry and your interest.

I can confirm that the immunogen used to raise this antibody was a full length purified human albumin. We do not have any cross-reactivity data with other species but a soon as we have further information, we will update our datasheet accordingly.

The average Ig concentration for this antibody is 3.3 mg/ml unless you have specific batch you are requesting.

If you need any further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Asked on Oct 09 2012

    Answer

    Thank you for contacting us.

I have heard back from the lab:
For ab2406, for use with human tissues, BSA may work but for other species it may crossreact.
For ab10241, it is not crossreacting with BSA.

Thus using BSA would be fine, but I might suggest trying this in a test experiment before doing the antibody array.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information.

    Question

    Hello,

We would like to remove albumin from lipoprotein contained in 100 ul of plasma that contain ˜4 mg of albumin using your polyclonal antibody ab2406 (the idea is to add excess antibody). Although it says that it has not been validated for IP and other applications could you give us an estimate of how many mg of albumin can be bound per ug of your antibody? Is this your best anti-albumin antibody for this purpose or you have others that are recommended? We would really appreciate a specific response.

    Sincerely,

Salutations
