Answer

Thank you for contacting Abcam.

We do not have set expiration dates for our products. Most antibodies are stable and can last for anywhere from a few months to several years if stored properly, so we strongly recommend that you follow the storage instructions on the datasheet for the antibody you purchased. These conditions will vary among our antibodies, therefore, it is important to verify the storage conditions for each of our products when you receive them. We guarantee all of our products to work for at least 6 months from the date of purchase when stored correctly.

For ab18394, we recommened that you store the product at 4C

For more information on antibody storage and stability, please visit our Antibody Storage Guide on our Protocols and Troubleshooting Tips page (https://www.abcam.com/index.html?pageconfig=popular_protocols).

I hope this information helps. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything further.

Question

Thank you for your reply.  First of all, kindly advise the pattern of the run that the customer should observe with the isotype control.   Secondly, please read the attached correspondence regarding the compatibility of ab18394 with IP and Invitrogen's Dynabeads protein A #100.01D. Please clarify.   Thanks in advance for your assistance and reply.

Asked on Mar 12 2012

Answer

Thank you for contacting us.

I did read over the specifications for dynabeads and I did not realize that they claim to have strong binding with IgG3 as most protein A beads have a weak binding with that particular isotype. However, because the primary antibody is IgG2b a correct isotype control will be anti-Mouse IgG2b.

Any isotype control should exhibit a typical banding of the heavy chain at ˜55kDa and of the light chain at ˜25kDa if the antibody has been reduced/denatured. Would it be possible to send the full membrane image with ladder as I was wondering if the light chain is present?

As always, this product is covered by our Abpromise guarantee.
If we cannot remedy this issue and this is a product that you have purchased within the last six months, we will replace or refund it under our Abpromise guarantee, as you are using it according to specifications listed on our datasheet.

Answer

Thank you for contacting us and thank you for providing the protocol and image.
After reviewing the data presented I would like to suggest a few changes that may help improve your results.

Mouse IgG3 does not bind well to beads for IP. To overcome this we recommend that when using an IgG3 antibody that you incubate for a longer period and use higher concentration. As your primary antibody is IgG2b, which binds more strongly to protein A beads, a correct isotype control will be anti-Mouse IgG2b. We do offer this product, ab18421. I have placed the link below.
