General notes
ab271986 is the carrier-free version of ab209217.
Our carrier-free antibodies are typically supplied in a PBS-only formulation, purified and free of BSA, sodium azide and glycerol. The carrier-free buffer and high concentration allow for increased conjugation efficiency.
This conjugation-ready format is designed for use with fluorochromes, metal isotopes, oligonucleotides, and enzymes, which makes them ideal for antibody labelling, functional and cell-based assays, flow-based assays (e.g. mass cytometry) and Multiplex Imaging applications.
Use our conjugation kits for antibody conjugates that are ready-to-use in as little as 20 minutes with <1 minute hands-on-time and 100% antibody recovery: available for fluorescent dyes, HRP, biotin and gold.
This product is compatible with the Maxpar® Antibody Labeling Kit from Fluidigm, without the need for antibody preparation. Maxpar® is a trademark of Fluidigm Canada Inc.
This product is a recombinant monoclonal antibody, which offers several advantages including:
- - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
- - Improved sensitivity and specificity
- - Long-term security of supply
- - Animal-free production
Our RabMAb® technology is a patented hybridoma-based technology for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies. For details on our patents, please refer to RabMAb® patents.

Function
Cooperates with LY96 to mediate the innate immune response to bacterial lipoproteins and other microbial cell wall components. Cooperates with TLR1 to mediate the innate immune response to bacterial lipoproteins or lipopeptides. Acts via MYD88 and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. May also promote apoptosis in response to lipoproteins. Recognizes mycoplasmal macrophage-activating lipopeptide-2kD (MALP-2), soluble tuberculosis factor (STF), phenol-soluble modulin (PSM) and B.burgdorferi outer surface protein A lipoprotein (OspA-L) cooperatively with TLR6. -
Tissue specificity
Highly expressed in peripheral blood leukocytes, in particular in monocytes, in bone marrow, lymph node and in spleen. Also detected in lung and in fetal liver. Levels are low in other tissues. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the Toll-like receptor family.
Contains 14 LRR (leucine-rich) repeats.
Contains 1 TIR domain. -
Post-translational
modificationsGlycosylation of Asn-442 is critical for secretion of the N-terminal ectodomain of TLR2. -

TLR2 was immunoprecipitated from 0.35 mg of RAW 264.7 (Mouse macrophage cell line transformed with Abelson murine leukemia virus) whole cell lysate, treated with 1 µg/ml LPS for 6 hours, with ab209217 at 1/30 dilution.
Western blot was performed from the immunoprecipitate using ab209217 at 1/500 dilution.
VeriBlot for IP Detection Reagent (HRP) (ab131366), was used for detection at 1/1000 dilution.
Lane 1: RAW 264.7 whole cell lysate treated with 1 µg/ml LPS for 6 hours, 10 µg (Input).
Lane 2: ab209217 IP in RAW 264.7 whole cell lysate treated with 1 µg/ml LPS for 6 hours.
Lane 3: Rabbit monoclonal IgG (ab172730) instead of ab209217 in RAW 264.7 whole cell lysate treated with 1 µg/ml LPS for 6 hours.
Blocking and dilution buffer and concentration: 5% NFDM/TBST.
Exposure time: 1 second.
This data was developed using the same antibody clone in a different buffer formulation containing PBS, BSA, glycerol, and sodium azide (ab209217).
