    RecA in E.coli can catalyze the hydrolysis of ATP in the presence of single-stranded DNA, the ATP-dependent uptake of single-stranded DNA by duplex DNA, and the ATP-dependent hybridization of homologous single-stranded DNAs. It interacts with lexA causing its activation and leading to its autocatalytic cleavage.

    BLAST alignment of your sequence with the sequence of the immunogen for this antibody, full-length E. coli RecA, (from the UniProt entry at this link: http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P0A7G6) returns a result of 77% identity. Since the antibody is polyclonal, recognizing multiple epitopes along the immunogen sequence, it is likely that some of the epitopes it recognizes are identical to sequences in your protein.

    However, our guarantee applies only to tested species, which in this case is E. coli and Helicobacter pylori, from the reference PubMed: 21949074. The guarantee does not apply to untested species, no matter how high the homology.

    Thank you for contacting us. It is highly likely that RecA protein of V. cholerae can be detected by immunoblotting with ab63797 because of the high sequence similarity of RecA protein between V. cholerae and E. Coli while the immunogen is whole RecA protein. The RecA protein level can be increased by DNA damage treatments like UV, mitomycin C etc. which can be a good positive control. Higher dilution (5000 fold) is recommended if there is a need to reduce the background signal. I hope this information is helpful to you.
