    • Relevance

Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) belongs to a family that includes HSV-2, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Varicella zoster (chicken pox) virus amongst others. HSV-1 and HSV-2 are extremely difficult to distinguish from each other. Members of this family have a characteristic virion structure. The double stranded DNA genome is contained within an icosahedral capsid embedded in a proteinaceous layer (tegument) and surrounded by a lipid envelope, derived from the nuclear membrane of the last host, which is decorated with virus-specific glycoproteins spikes. These viruses are capable of entering a latent phase where the host shows no visible sign of infection and levels of infectious agent become very low. During the latent phase the viral DNA is integrated into the genome of the host cell. Glycoprotein D (gD) has been implicated in binding to cellular receptors that facilitate virus penetration into cells. Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) glycoprotein D (gD) is an essential component of the entry apparatus that is responsible for viral penetration and subsequent cell-cell spread.

    Asked on Dec 05 2012

    Answer

    Thank you for contacting Abcam.

For ab43045, we do not have the specific protocol information that validated this protein in WB and ELISA. We update the product datasheets with tested applications and species based on a variety of sources, whether it is our own lab work, specific references, or abreviews posted by researchers demonstrating successful use of the product in a particular application or species.

For ab48969 and ab48970, 2 micrograms of the protein were loaded in a SDS PAGE gel and a standard western blot protocol was followed. We do not have the specific protocol used to validate the protein in ELISA.

I'm sorry that this protocol information isn't more specific, but we do guarantee all 3 of these proteins to work in both western blot and ELISA as stated on the datasheet and will provide scientific support if there are any issues. If we cannot work with you to solve the issues, we will happily replace the product or refund your purchase within 6 months of purchase. Further details about our AbPromise guarantee are given through the link below:
    https://www.abcam.com/index.html?pageconfig=resource&rid=10372&pid=10000&source=pagetrap

Our recommended western blot and ELISA protocols are given through the links below, and we also recommend optimizing the use of these proteins for both western blot and ELISA for each researcher's specific experimental conditions.
    Western blotting: https://www.abcam.com/index.html?pageconfig=resource&rid=11375
ELISA (direct, indirect, fluorescent substrate, primary antibody): https://www.abcam.com/index.html?pageconfig=popular_protocols

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information.
