Hi I just purchased ApoE E3 protein （ab50242） from Abcam and I noticed that Abcam recommends using 5 mM Sodium Phosphate, pH 7.8 + 0.5 mM DTT to reconstitute the lyophilized protein. I am gonna use the ApoE protein to treat cells by adding it into cell culture medium and I am wondering if DTT will be toxic to the cells if the final concentration of DTT in culture medium is 3μM. Also I wanna know how long can this ApoE E3 protein be stored under -80ºC with only Sodium Phosphate but no DTT in it after reconstitution and before it becomes oxidized and loses activity.

Thank you for your inquiry.
We don't know if this protein has any biological activity since we haven't tested this. If you are going to test it in cell culture, I wouldn't include any DTT as this may be toxic. We don't know how long the protein will be stable at -80C without the addition of DTT as we haven't tested this. I don't think it would matter all that much as the recommendation for addition of DTT is primarily for SDS-PAGE. I would recommend storing at -20C after adding the sodium phosphate.
I hope this information helps. Please contact us with any other questions.
