Preparation and Storage

  • Stability and Storage

    Shipped at 4°C. Store at -20°C or -80°C.

    pH: 5.50
    Constituents: 0.39% MES, 0.88% Sodium chloride

  • Reconstitution
    Always centrifuge tubes before opening. Do not mix by vortex or pipetting. Dissolve the lyophilised protein in 1X PBS. It is not recommended to reconstitute to a concentration less than 100 µg/ml.
    Reconstituted protein solution can be stored at 4-7°C for 2-7 days. For long term storage aliquot and store at < -20°C.

  • Function

    Human saliva appears to contain several cysteine proteinase inhibitors that are immunologically related to cystatin S but that differ in their specificity due to amino acid sequence differences. Cystatin SN, with a pI of 7.5, is a much better inhibitor of papain and dipeptidyl peptidase I than is cystatin S, although both inhibit ficin equally well.

    Expressed in submandibular and sublingual saliva but not in parotid saliva (at protein level). Expressed in saliva, tears, urine and seminal fluid.
