Preparation and Storage

  • Stability and Storage

Shipped at 4°C. Store at 4°C prior to reconstitution. Store at -80°C. Avoid freeze / thaw cycle. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein on reconstitution (0.1% HSA or BSA).

    pH: 7.4
    Constituents: 95% PBS, 5% Trehalose

    Lyophilized from 0.22µm filtered solution.

This product is an active protein and may elicit a biological response in vivo, handle with caution.

  • Reconstitution
It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized protein in 200 µL sterile deionized water to a final concentration of 1 mg/mL. Solubilize for 30 to 60 minutes at room temperature with occasional gentle mixing.

  • Function

Galactose-specific lectin which binds IgE. May mediate with the alpha-3, beta-1 integrin the stimulation by CSPG4 of endothelial cells migration. Together with DMBT1, required for terminal differentiation of columnar epithelial cells during early embryogenesis.
  • Tissue specificity

A major expression is found in the colonic epithelium. It is also abundant in the activated macrophages.
  • Sequence similarities

    Contains 1 galectin domain.
  • Cellular localization

Nucleus. Cytoplasmic in adenomas and carcinomas. May be secreted by a non-classical secretory pathway and associate with the cell surface.
  • Information by UniProt

Images

  • Human Galectin-3 (His Tag) on SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) condition. The gel was stained overnight with Coomassie Blue. The purity of the protein is greater than 92%.
  • SDS-PAGE analysis of reduced ab179972 stained overnight with Coomassie Blue.  DTT-reduced protein migrates as 32 kDa
