Function
Transcriptional regulator that plays a role in retinal development and maintenance. -
Tissue specificity
In the retina, expressed in the outer and inner nuclear layers, and the ganglion cell layer. -
Involvement in disease
Defects in ZNF513 are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 58 (RP58) [MIM:613617]. A retinal dystrophy belonging to the group of pigmentary retinopathies. Retinitis pigmentosa is characterized by retinal pigment deposits visible on fundus examination and primary loss of rod photoreceptor cells followed by secondary loss of cone photoreceptors. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family.
Contains 8 C2H2-type zinc fingers. -
