Additional notes
This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called 9210 Proteinase K, Recombinant, Molecular Grade. 9210-10g is the same size as the 10 g size of ab286002.
A serine protease that displays the ability to digest native proteins, thereby inactivating enzymes such as DNase and RNase without recourse to a denaturation process. It retains its activity in presence of SDS and urea. It is inactivated by diisopropyl fluorophosphates (DFP) and phenyl methane sulfonyl fluoride (PMSF).

Relevance
Proteinase K is an endolytic protease that cleaves peptide bonds preferentially next to the carboxyl group of N-substituted hydrophobic aliphatic and aromatic amino acids. Proteinase K is classified as a serine protease and exhibits broad substrate specificity. It can hydrolyze keratin; hence the name. Proteinase K is used for the digestion of proteins on tissue sections as a pre-treatment to aid in the preparation of mRNA and its detection by in situ hybridisation methods using oligonucleotide probes.
