              Infectious diseases at Abcam

As we have seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, new pathogens and new variants of existing pathogens can emerge rapidly. Finding high-quality specific reagents for emerging pathogens is one of the major challenges faced by scientists studying infectious diseases. When a new viral outbreak or new variants of an existing pathogen appear, researchers need to quickly find the right tools to study it. However, many reagents on the market have poor quality and are not specific to the strain of interest.

At Abcam, we have a passion for infectious diseases and are relentless in our focus to provide reliable and consistent reagents to support your research, drug discovery and diagnostics. We offer you the tools required today, from recombinant antibodies to high-throughput assays, and continuously anticipate your future needs.

Helping you make a breakthrough in infectious diseases

To provide you with tools you need to study pathogens and host immune responses in infectious diseases, we offer a comprehensive proteomics portfolio of antibodies, ELISA kits, proteins and cell lines for existing and new targets in:

              • common respiratory infections, such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection and pneumonia, as well as SARS-CoV-2.
              • diseases with significant therapeutic potential (eg, AIDS and Hepatitis B)
              • pathogens of high pandemic potential prioritized by the World Health Organization (WHO), such as Zika, Ebola, Nipah, Lassa, Crimea-Congo hemorrhagic fever and Rift Valley Fever viruses

To anticipate your future needs, we continually update our product portfolio, identifying and prioritizing the most relevant targets. We are also producing products for pathogens that WHO deems to be of high pandemic potential and are committed to generating reagents for every target in the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

If a research tool you need is not available off the shelf, our in-house team of experts will work with you to create a customized solution.

Our end-to-end portfolio in infectious diseases

Explore our expansive portfolio to find high-quality products for your pathogen, target or disease of interest, or browse our recommended products for influenza, HIV, and hepatitis B research in the sections below.

Choose from three main groups of reagents for infectious disease research:

              Recombinant monoclonal antibodies

              ELISA kits

              Recombinant proteins

Detect and characterize pathogens of interest in various sample types

Characterize immune response towards a particular pathogen/variant

Develop new assays or use them as controls

              • Overcome reproducibility and supply issues with recombinant monoclonal antibodies for specific pathogen strains/genotypes of interest.
              • Superior batch-to-batch consistency, uninterrupted supply, and unrivaled specificity
              • Validated for key applications, including immunofluorescence/ICC, IHC, western blot, ELISA
              • A wide range of specific and sensitive serology assays that allow you to detect antibodies against your pathogen of interest

              • Native antigens for developing immunodiagnostic tests (closely resemble the antigen in clinical samples).
