RelevanceRIC8 is a Guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF), which can activate some, but not all, G-alpha proteins by exchanging bound GDP for free GTP. The Caenorhabditis elegans protein Ric-8 has two mammalian homologs that have been identified : Ric-8A (Ric-8/synembryn) and Ric-8B. Synembryns are proteins that positively regulate synaptic transmission.
