FunctionComponent of the transverse filaments of synaptonemal complexes (SCS), formed between homologous chromosomes during meiotic prophase. Has an essential meiotic function in spermatogenesis. May be important for testis development.
Involvement in diseaseDefects in SYCP3 are a cause of azoospermia due to perturbations of meiosis (AZSPM) [MIM:270960]. AZSPM is a condition of having no sperm present in the ejaculate. Testicular histology shows arrest of spermatogenesis at the pachytene stage of primary spermatocytes.

Predicted band size: 28 kDa
Observed band size: 34 kDa why is the actual band size different from the predicted?
Additional bands at: 135 kDa, 150 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.
Exposure time: 20 minutes
This blot was produced using a 10% Bis-tris gel under the MES buffer system. The gel was run at 200V for 35 minutes before being transferred onto a Nitrocellulose membrane at 30V for 70 minutes. The membrane was then blocked for an hour using 5% Bovine Serum Albumin before being incubated with ab150292 overnight at 4°C. Antibody binding was detected using an anti-rabbit antibody conjugated to HRP, and visualised using ECL development solution.
IHC/IF image of ab150292 stained formalin fixed paraffin embedded human normal testis. The section was incubated in 1%BSA / 10% normal goat serum / 0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h to permeabilise the tissue and block non-specific protein-protein interactions. The section was then incubated with the antibody (ab150292, 0.2µg/ml) overnight at +4°C. The secondary antibody (green) was ab96899, DyLight® 488 goat anti-rabbit IgG (H+L) used at a 1/250 dilution for 1h. DAPI was used to stain the cell nuclei (blue) at a concentration of 1.43µM.
