FunctionBinds differentially to the SH3 domains of certain proteins of signal transduction pathways. Binds to phosphatidylinositols; linking the hemopoietic tyrosine kinase fes to the cytoplasmic membrane in a phosphorylation dependent mechanism.
Tissue specificityExpressed in a variety of tissues including lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas.
Involvement in diseaseDefects in SH3BP2 are the cause of cherubism (CRBM) [MIM:118400]. CRBM is an autosomal dominant inherited syndrome characterized by excessive bone degradation of the upper and lower jaws, which often begins around three years of age. It is followed by development of fibrous tissue masses, which causes a characteristic facial swelling.
Sequence similaritiesContains 1 PH domain.
Contains 1 SH2 domain.

Paraffin-embedded human panceas tissue stained for SH3BP2 using ab238561 at 1/400 dilution in immunohistochemical analysis.
After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30 munutes at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.
