    Shigella is a genus of Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore forming rod-shaped bacteria closely related to Escherichia coli and Salmonella. The causative agent of human shigellosis, Shigella also cause disease in other primates, but not in other mammals. Shigella species are classified by four serogroups: * Serogroup A: S. dysenteriae (12 serotypes) * Serogroup B: S. flexneri (6 serotypes) * Serogroup C: S. boydii (23 serotypes) * Serogroup D: S. sonnei (1 serotype) Shigella infection causes dysentery that results in the destruction of the epithelial cells of the intestinal mucosa in the cecum and rectum. Some strains produce enterotoxin and Shiga toxin, similar to the verotoxin of E. coli O157:H7.

I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing issues when using this product in ELISA. As stated on the datasheet of this product; Shigella is a genus of Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore forming rod-shaped bacteria closely related to Escherichia coli and Salmonella. The product has not been cross absorbed to reduce E.coli reactivity and as such it is very likely that reactivity against E.coli will occur.

1. ab65282- has not been specifically tested for reactivity in Salmonella typhimurium or Staphylococcus aureus. However, Shigella is closely related to Salmonella, and as the antibody preparation has not been cross absorbed it may react with it. The antibody will not likely react in Staph aureus, as this organism is not closely related to Shigella. 2. ab76294- Unfortunately, we do not have cross-reactivity data for neither S. flexneri nor Staphylococcus aureus. It is likely that the antibody would recognize Shigella flexneri as it is a related enterobacteriaceae.

Thank you for your patience. The originator got back to me with a reply saying that this antibody will also recognize S. sonnei, eventhough it was not used as the immunogen. They also confirmed that the product can be used to detect proteins from this species, as well as the three listed as part of the immunogen. I hope this information helps.
