Target

  • Function

    Bidirectional lipid cholinephosphotransferase capable of converting phosphatidylcholine (PC) and ceramide to sphingomyelin (SM) and diacylglycerol (DAG) and vice versa. Direction is dependent on the relative concentrations of DAG and ceramide as phosphocholine acceptors. Directly and specifically recognizes the choline head group on the substrate. Also requires two fatty chains on the choline-P donor molecule in order to be recognized efficiently as a substrate. Does not function strictly as a SM synthase. Required for cell growth.

  • Paraffin-embedded human appendix tissue stained for Sphingomyelin Synthase 2 using ab237681 at 1/600 dilution in immunohistochemical analysis.

    After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized tissue using an HRP conjugated SP system.

  • HeLa (human epithelial cell line from cervix adenocarcinoma) cells stained for Sphingomyelin Synthase 2 (green) using ab237681 at 1/100 dilution in ICC/IF. Secondary antibody is Alexa Fluor® 488-congugated Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG (H+L).
