  • Product overview

Abcam’s Testosterone in vitro competitive ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate quantitative measurement of Testosterone in serum and plasma.

A 96-well plate has been precoated with anti-Testosterone antibodies. Samples and the Testosterone-HRP conjugate are added to the wells, where Testosterone in the sample competes with the added Testosterone-HRP for antibody binding. After incubation, the wells are washed to remove unbound material and TMB substrate is then added which is catalyzed by HRP to produce blue coloration. The reaction is terminated by addition of Stop Solution which stops the color development and produces a color change from blue to yellow. The intensity of signal is inversely proportional to the amount of Testosterone in the sample and the intensity is measured at 450 nm.

Easy to use but maybe not suitable for mouse serum

Below average Excellent 5/5 (Ease of Use)
We tried to use this kit to measure testosterone in mouse serum but were unable to measure anything in serum from normal WT mice. I suspect matrix effect interfered with measurements in neat or 1:2 diluted samples and more dilute samples (1 to 10) might have had levels below the detection limit. It is possible that further optimization or testing of other dilutions may help.
The standard worked really well and the product was easy to use. I would consider this kit if I ever have to measure testosterone in human samples but not for mouse.

Works in guinea pig plasma

Excellent Excellent 5/5 (Ease of Use)
Bought this kit to try with guinea pig plasma. Kit was easy to use, fast and instructions were clear. From my results, it seems to have worked well in the guinea pig. Male samples all fell within the curve at expected concentrations.

Testosterone Human Elisa Kit

Excellent Below average 2/5 (Ease of Use)
This Kit is very easy to use. It provides all the reagent and it is very good for data output as it takes less than 3 hours to be performed.
The kit is designed for Human Serum of plasma. However, it works very well on mouse serum.
Standards provided with the kit, produce a reliable standard curve as shown in the picture below.
