General notes
Reproducibility is key to advancing scientific discovery and accelerating scientists’ next breakthrough.
Abcam is leading the way with our range of recombinant antibodies, knockout-validated antibodies and knockout cell lines, all of which support improved reproducibility.
We are also planning to innovate the way in which we present recommended applications and species on our product datasheets, so that only applications & species that have been tested in our own labs, our suppliers or by selected trusted collaborators are covered by our Abpromise™ guarantee.
In preparation for this, we have started to update the applications & species that this product is Abpromise guaranteed for.
We are also updating the applications & species that this product has been “predicted to work with,” however this information is not covered by our Abpromise guarantee.
Applications & species from publications and Abreviews that have not been tested in our own labs or in those of our suppliers are not covered by the Abpromise guarantee.

Function
mRNA-binding protein that plays a key role in self-renewal of erythroid cells in response to glucocorticoids. Specifically binds to the AU-rich element (ARE) in the 3'-UTR of target mRNAs, promoting their deadenylation and degradation (PubMed:14981510). Specifically expressed in burst-forming unit-erythroid (BFU-E) progenitors in response to glucocorticoids and acts as a negative regulator of erythroid cell differentiation: promotes self-renewal of erythroid cells by binding mRNAs that are induced or highly expressed during terminal erythroid differentiation and promotes their degradation, preventing erythroid cell differentiation. Down-regulated during erythroid differentiation from the BFU-E stage, stabilizing mRNAs required for terminal differentiation. -
Involvement in disease
Defects in ZFP36L2 may be a cause of leukemias. Frameshfits mutations disrupting ZFP36L2 have been found in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia (PubMed:21109922). -
Sequence similarities
Contains 2 C3H1-type zinc fingers. -
Cellular localization
Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. - Information by UniProt
