RelevanceTREX1 is the major 3'->5' DNA exonuclease in human cells. The protein is a non processive exonuclease that may serve a proofreading function for a human DNA polymerase. It is also a component of the SET complex, and acts to rapidly degrade 3' ends of nicked DNA during granzyme A mediated cell death. Mutations in this gene result in Aicardi Goutieres syndrome, chilblain lupus, and Cree encephalitis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

ab212000 staining TREX1 in HeLa cells. The cells were fixed with 100%methanol, permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 for 5 minutes and then blocked with 1% BSA/10% normal goat serum/0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h. The cells were then incubated overnight at +4°C with ab212000 at 1/50 dilution (pseudocolored in green) and ab195884, Rat monoclonal [YOL1/34] to Tubulin - Microtubule Marker (Alexa Fluor® 647), at 1/250 dilution (shown in green/red). Nuclear DNA was labelled with DAPI (shown in blue).
