    UCK2 phosphorylates uridine and cytidine to uridine monophosphate and cytidine monophosphate. This is the first step in the production of the pyrimidine nucleoside triphosphates required for RNA and DNA synthesis. Does not phosphorylate deoxyribonucleosides or purine ribonucleosides.
