RelevanceUPF3B is part of a post-splicing multiprotein complex involved in both mRNA nuclear export and mRNA surveillance. mRNA surveillance detects exported mRNAs with truncated open reading frames and initiates nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). When translation ends upstream from the last exon-exon junction, this triggers NMD to degrade mRNAs containing premature stop codons. UPF3B binds to the mRNA and remains bound after nuclear export, acting as a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein. It forms with Y14 a complex that binds specifically 20 nt upstream of exon-exon junctions. This gene is located on the long arm of chromosome X (referenced from entrez gene).

Immunoprecipitation of HeLa whole cell lysate using ab134566 at 6µg/mg lysate (1 mg/IP; 20% of IP loaded/lane) followed by detection of UPF3B/RENT3B with ab134566 at 1µg/ml. The lysate in lane 2 is precipitated with an IgG control antibody. Detection: Chemiluminescence with exposure time of 3 seconds.
