  • Function

Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane that allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules. The channel adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective.
  • Tissue specificity

    Expressed in all tissues examined.
  • Sequence similarities

Belongs to the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family.
  • Domain

    Consists mainly of a membrane-spanning beta-barrel formed by 19 beta-strands.
  • Cellular localization

    Mitochondrion outer membrane.

Customer reviews and Q&As

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, both VDAC1 and VDAC3 are very homologous with VDAC2. While we have not tested these antibodies specifically for cross-reactivity with VDAC1 and VDAC3, the antibodies ab37985 and ab118872 show ˜67% homology with both proteins. It is possible that they may show some cross-reactivity, but they are the least likely to react out of the antibodies we currently have available. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any additional information or assistance.
