  • Description

Mouse monoclonal [2G2] to Vitamin D Binding protein
  • Host species

  • Specificity

ab23480 is specific for Gc-globulin (vitamin D binding protein).
  • Tested applications

    Suitable for: ELISA, WBmore details
  • Species reactivity

    Reacts with: Human
  • Immunogen

Full length native Gc-globulin isolated from human plasma

  • Positive control

    • Human plasma can be used as a positive control. The concentration of Gc-globulin in human plasma is approximately 400 µg/ml.

Our Abpromise guarantee covers the use of ab23480 in the following tested applications.

The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

Application Abreviews Notes
ELISA 1/20000.
WB Use at an assay dependent dilution. Detects a band of approximately 50 kDa. (Note: In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, HYB 249-01 reacts with Gc-globulin in both reduced as well as unreduced forms.)

  • Function

Multifunctional protein found in plasma, ascitic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine and on the surface of many cell types. In plasma, it carries the vitamin D sterols and prevents polymerization of actin by binding its monomers. DBP associates with membrane-bound immunoglobulin on the surface of B-lymphocytes and with IgG Fc receptor on the membranes of T-lymphocytes.
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the ALB/AFP/VDB family.
    Contains 3 albumin domains.
  • Cellular localization

Thank you for contacting us.

Full length vitamin D binding protein is used as immunogen for ab121060, ab121063 and ab23480 but we are sorry to tell that we do not have a specific epitope mapping, down to the amino acid sequence, available. These antibodies have been tested in inhibition ELISA experiment, none of the antibodies inhibit each other. Hence, we believe that they do all react with different epitopes. However, as we have not tested ab23480 in sandwich ELISA with ab121063, we cannot tell whether ab23480 can be a suitable sandwich ELISA pair with ab121063, of which you have to test in your own experiment.

Thank you for your enquiry. Further to correspondence with the source of this antibody I can tell you that normal human plasma should be suitable as a positive control. The concentration of Gc-globulin in human plasma is approximately 400 µg/ml (Masuda S, Okano T, Osawa K, Shinjo M, Suematsu T, Kobayashi T (1989) Concentrations of vitamin D-binding protein and vitamin D metabolites in plasma of patients with liver cirrosis.
