      Key enzyme in purine degradation. Catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine. Catalyzes the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid. Contributes to the generation of reactive oxygen species. Has also low oxidase activity towards aldehydes (in vitro).
    • Tissue specificity

      Detected in milk (at protein level).
    • Involvement in disease

      Defects in XDH are the cause of xanthinuria type 1 (XU1) [MIM:278300]. Xanthinuria is characterized by excretion of very large amounts of xanthine in the urine and a tendency to form xanthine stones. Uric acid is strikingly diminished in serum and urine. XU1 is due to isolated xanthine dehydrogenase. XU1 patients can metabolize allopurinol.

    Thank you for your reply and this further information.
    My colleagues from the lab and I would be tempted to just say "yes, the antibody recognises the xanthine reductase at 145kDa as well as the xanthine oxidase at around 80kDa". Our only reservation is that we have not done any additional testing to confirm which subunits this antibody is specific to. Thus, all we can say is that we have detected both 150kDa and 80kDa bands in our tests. Indeed, based on all of our data for this product, it looks like there are previous tests that have shown the ˜80kDa band (only in 293T lysates).

    My colleagues from the lab confirmed that, based on our in house data, and the information provided by Uniprot, the predicted MW of XDH is 150kDa.
    Do you have any knowledge or information on different subunits for this target?
    Have you run a positive control, or tried any other samples (293T, fetal liver)?

    My colleagues are currently doing some more searching about XDH, to see if they can find anything about what the 80kDa band might be. They will be in touch with me as soon as possible.
